ISSEY MIYAKE WATCH: New Models “GT” to Appear, Designed by Kiyoyuki Ken Okuyama

Ken Okuyama, the world-renowned industrial designer, has newly participated in the “ISSEY MIYAKE WATCH” Project. He has been engaged in a wide range of activities, from creation of traditional Nanbu iron kettles to designing of the Shinkansen trains, fully equipped with the most advanced technology. He is widely known in particular for his automotive designs, such as the Ferrari Enzo, and his works are consistently praised worldwide.

The new “GT” watches were inspired by the “Grand Touring” automobiles for motor sports, Okuyama’s field of expertise. By fusing grace into the simple, unadorned automotive design, the functional elements of the GT automobiles – speed, distance and time – are embodied in the mechanical watches.
As if heralding a grand adventure to places unknown, the new ISSEY MIYAKE prestige watches are ready to begin ticking.

132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE 2016 Vol.4

This season. Issey Miyake and his Reality Lab. team open up a new possibility of making clothing through redesigning the preceding results that they have accumulated for the 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE collections.

Thus the new results include such warm groups as DELTA WOOL, whose light and soft texture owes to a newly developed fabric blending wool with recycled polyester, and CIRCULAR WOOL, which features its simple and clear silhouette consisting of circles, realized with another new fabric knitted up by a special Raschel machine and then fulled not to fray any cut edges.

132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE 2016 Vol.3

For this season, ISSEY MIYAKE and his Reality Lab. team further explore the possibility of clothing design, particularly starting with a geometrical hexagon inspired by a snow crystal, under the seasonal theme of ICE.
Having a simple structure consisting of rectangles, a new model NO.15 thus turns into a hexagonal form when folded flat, printed with the motif of water expressing snow crystals melting into water.
In addition, there are new results achieved by redesigning the original models or groups from the preceding 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE collections, including NO.10 RAMIE, which blends the natural material with recycled polyester to realize its impressive texture, and GRID TIE DYE, which features striking patterns produced by Itajime dyeing technique.

132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE 2016 Vol.1

ISSEY MIYAKE and his Reality Lab. team focus on a pentagon and a regular dodecahedron to explore the possibility of design further this season.
In principle, a polyhedron which is shapeable with pentagons is just a dodecahedron. 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE, however, taking full advantage of the flexible property of textile, succeeds in realizing those garments which have other three-dimensional structures composed of smaller number of pentagonal faces. This is PENTAGON, a new series featuring a new kind of shape.

ISSEY MIYAKE WATCH: New Series “V” to Appear, Designed by Tokujin Yoshioka

Breaking from the conventional notion of a watchband, the new series gives birth to the first bracelet watch of its kind. As a new type of accessory beyond the definition of a watch, “V” is genderless and can be enjoyed equally by women and men. The metal bracelet which is randomly formed with V cuts is created by stainless steel extrusion molding. Mirroring surrounding light, “V” shows various expression and gives off poetic reflections.

The story of innovative clothing designer Issey Miyake’s PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE is told in a book for the first time.

“I want to make clothes that are as universal as t-shirts and jeans.” – PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE embodies this dream of Issey Miyake’s as a designer. PLEATS PLEASE clothes come in simple shapes in a wide variety of colors and prints. They are light, wrinkle-free, and travel well. They can be machine-washed and do not require ironing. Storing them is as simple as rolling them up. Their functionality and practicality have significantly changed the lifestyles of women all over the world. Additionally, Miyake developed original material through continuous research and using the latest technology, and established his original pleating technique, by which pleats are applied after the fabric is cut and sewn. This book reflects on the approximately 20 years of history, while introducing newly written articles on the universality, innovativeness, and appeal of the clothes and also includes about 400 images.

Summer Fragrances coming up, picturing Water, Desert, and Oasis.

Starting in 1995, there has been a limited edition Summer Fragrance each year. Behind one of the dunes in the middle of the desert, an oasis appears, like a cool blast. The inspiration for L’Eau d’Issey and L’Eau d’Issey pour L’Homme stems from that magical coolness that can be felt when the desert seems to be sleeping silently in peace. This special scent was created by the perfumer Jacques Cavallier. The bottle plays transparency against the bright green opacity of the leaves that adorn the glass.

With an intelligent mechanical face resembling precision automotive gauges, a metal case which mirrors aluminum wheels and a strong side view curve inspired by bending bamboo; this watch is a true reflection of Wada’s design philosophy which marries a traditional Japan aesthetic with the latest technology.

Fragrance featuring sports “L’EAU D’ISSEY POUR HOMME SPORT” is now announced.

To evoke man’s relationship with nature. To feel the intensity and emotion of sports. This is the vision of this dynamic new men’s fragrance. The perfumer Jacques Cavallier has evoked the idea of “the deep breath of satisfaction that a mountain climber takes when he reaches the summit.” The bottle, by Italian designer Renato Montagner, is made from specially treated glass to create the reflective and transparent qualities of ski goggles; the grip-like cap evokes the high-tech materials used to ensure accuracy and control in sporting equipment.
