MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO

COMPANY PHILOSOPHY

The Miyake Design Studio was established by Issey Miyake on April 11, 1970. It serves as a laboratory for researching, planning and creating clothing that is both socially conscious and universal in nature. The staff at the design studio collaborate with local production areas and factories, and also experiment with new materials and techniques at the company's own workshop. This process gives birth to original materials, innovative technologies, and unique methodologies.
The Miyake Design Studio’s mission is to create clothing that reflects the needs of its times. Miyake’s direction focuses not only upon individual creativity, research but also upon the teamwork. It leads to the cultivation of the next generation of talent.
Another major role of the Miyake Design Studio is to hold and manage intellectual property, providing ongoing value and protection of trademark rights for all of the brands developed and also the innovative, creative designs achieved. Additionally, it enters into joint development agreements with other companies to plan and develop products in a wide range of areas beyond clothing.
Miyake’s clothing is "a piece of cloth" wrapped around the body. We start there and then ask fundamental questions beyond that, what clothing is and can be, generating ideas that expand outward as we pursue the creation of products and manufacturing skills required to suit the needs of the current generation and time. This is the spirit of Miyake Design Studio.
